The ILL - past, present and future: 2000 - 2020
Andrew Harrison (Institut Laue-Langevin)
The ILL's instrumentation suite has been transformed since 2000 through its 'Millennium' upgrade Programme, with half of the instruments upgraded or replaced, resulting in an average increase in detector rate of more than twenty times. In parallel, support laboratories have been established to support research in biology, engineering and soft matter. An overview will be given on what the programme has achieved to date, and what the current phase is anticipated to be delivered by 2014. In addition, we are laying the foundation for longer-term development in our '2020 Vision' Programme, taking into account the evolution of other neutron sources in Europe such as the ESS.
