Dynamics of Nanomagnets under the influence of spin torque

Sergei Urazhdin (West Virginia University)

Spin transfer (ST) between the spin polarized conduction electrons and magnetizations of the magnetic layers in nanofabriacted magnetic structures is perhaps the most promising mechanism for the manipulation of magnetoelectronic devices. Besides the potential practical importance, this effect enables us to study the aspects of magnetic dynamics in nanostructures that previously were not experimentally accessible. I will give a brief introduction to ST, and describe our recent experiments addressing the new dynamical states that can be induced by ST. I will also discuss how ST can induce coupled dynamics of ferromagnets in nanostructures. I will relate our experimental results to our present understanding of the ST.
