Quasielastic and inelastic neutron-scattering (QENS and INS) experiments on concentrated-methanol aqueous solutions
N. de Souza IPNS
We have investigated methanol + water mixtures by QENS and INS. Motivations are presented for studying alcohol + water mixtures in general. To quantify the alcohol microscopic dynamics, QENS experiments were performed on xA(CH3OD)+(1-xA)D3O at alcohol mole fraction xA=0.8,0.9,1.0, from room temperature to the liquidus of the solutions. To characterize the hydrogen bonding, INS experiments were performed on xA(CD3OH)+(1-xA)H3O at similar mole fractions, on the amorphous solid solutions.
