Recent developments in the design of boron-coated chopper disks
Stephan Polachowski, Magnetic Bearings and Drives, Central Department of Technology, Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany
Forschungzentrum Jülich has designed and built a disk chopper cascade for the instrument MARS at the neutron source SINQ (Paul Scherrer Institut, Switzerland). The general approach from customer's wish to realization will be discussed. Emphasis is put on the magnetic bearing design, the design of the chopper disks, the choice of absorber material and the method of coating the disks.
