Commissioning of the JŸlich backscattering spectrometer

The backscattering spectrometer SPHERES, built by the JŸlich research centre, is part of the initial instrumentation of the new national neutron source FRM-II in Garching, Germany. The instrument is currently under commissioning. I will discuss the design of the instrument and present first test measurements.
