The Polymer Cells

The polymer cells are used for melt pressed polymers. Polymer wafers of uniform thickness are made by melt-pressing polymer powders using a metal ring spacer. Sometimes annealing the hot pressed samples in a vacuum oven is necessary to remove any bubbles that may form.

These cells use sample wafers that occupy a volume of 0.3 mL for 1 mm path length. If the sample is mostly deuterated, 2 mm path length cells are available.

With the advent of our 0 mm path length demountable titanium cells, these cells are not used as much anymore.
