Pat Gallagher appointed NIST Deputy Director

As Deputy Director of NIST, Pat Gallagher is assuming the duties and responsibilities of NIST Director, pending the appointment of a new NIST Director. Under his previous role as Director of the NCNR, a post he held since 2004, an Expansion Initiative project was approved and is now being implemented. His research interests include neutron and X-ray instrumentation and studies of soft condensed matter systems such as liquids, polymers and gels. Pat received his Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Pittsburgh in 1991. In 2000, he was a NIST agency representative at the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC). He has been active in the area of U.S. policy for scientific user facilities and was chair of the Interagency Working Group on neutron and light source facilities under the Office of Science and Technology Policy.
Rob Dimeo assumes duties of NCNR Director

Rob Dimeo has assumed the responsibilities of NCNR Director. Rob received a Ph.D. in physics at Penn State University in 1999. His research interests include the dynamics of quantum fluids and quantum molecular rotors, the development of software for analysis of neutron scattering data, and neutron scattering instrumentation. From 2005 to 2007, Rob worked on an 18-month assignment at the Office of Science and Technology Policy, serving as the Assistant Director for Physical Sciences and Engineering. He has been the Group Leader for Research Facility Operations at the NCNR and the Deputy Director since 2007.
