Directions for Student Housing
Welcome to College ParkUpon arrival to campus, please check in at the Hospitality Desk in Annapolis Hall. After receiving your housing materials, you will proceed to the residence hall to move in.
The University will provide one pillow, bed sheets, a blanket, and towels for all overnight guests. Please note that there are one to two bathrooms per suite and that these are shared facilities. You may want to bring a bathrobe, shower shoes, an alarm clock, a fan, and any toiletries you may need.
Directions to Annapolis Hall (Housing Check-in) once on campus:
Travel by air
Take Campus Drive towards the traffic circle. Proceed ¾ of the way around the circle and proceed to the right on Regents Drive. After you pass through the third stop sign and pass Memorial Chapel, Annapolis Hall will be located on your right. There are a limited number of metered spaces available in front of Annapolis Hall and additional metered spaces in front of Memorial Chapel. You will not be at Annapolis Hall for long. You will only need to check in and pickup your housing materials. Once you receive your room assignment, keys, and meal card, you will proceed to the residence hall.The University is served by three major airports. The following are suggestions for travel to campus from these airport locations.
Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) is located approximately 25 miles north of the University. Driving time is approximately 35 minutes. Ground transportation to College Park is available by van or taxi.
-Airport shuttles cost around $25/person
-Taxi service will cost around $45Reagan National Airport (DCA) is located in Arlington, Virginia and is about 15 miles from College Park. Expect slow travel through Washington, D.C. Approximate driving time is 40 minutes.
-You can take the Metrorail from the airport. Take the yellow line toward Mt.Vernon and get off at L'Enfant Plaza. Transfer to the green line towards Greenbelt and get off at the College Park station. The station is one mile south of campus. You make take a taxi or use the University Shuttle system, Shuttle UM.
-Taxi service is approximately $50 from the airport.Dulles International (IAD) is located near Herndon, Virginia and is about 35 miles from College Park. Driving time is approximately one hour.
-Taxi service will cost around $60
-Bus service is available to the West Falls Church Metrorail where you will take the Metro's orange line toward New Carrollton. Transfer to the Red line (towards Glenmont) at Metro Center. Take the red line to Fort Totten. Get off at Fort Totten and transfer to the green line towards Greenbelt. Get off at the College Park-University of Maryland station. Directions to the campus from the metro station are listed above.
Travel by automobileThe University of Maryland at College Park is located at the northern juncture of Interstate 95 and the Washington, D.C. Capital Beltway (Interstate 495).
All directions below will take you to the main entrance of campus on Campus Drive.
From Baltimore and Points North:
- I-95 South to Exit 27 and U.S. 1 South
- Go two miles south on U.S. Route 1
From Points South:
- I-95 North to Capital Beltway (I-95/495), take Exit 25
- Go two miles south on U.S. Route 1
From Bowie/Annapolis Areas and Points East:
- U.S. 50 to the Capital Beltway North (I-95/495)
- Exit Beltway at Exit 25 and U.S. 1 South
- Go two miles south on U.S. 1 South
From West:
From Washington, D.C.:
- I-95 North to Exit 25
- Go two miles south on U.S. Route 1
Travel by Metro
- Take 16th St. N. to Georgia Ave. N (U.S. 97)
- Go about ¼ mile to Capital Beltway (I-495) E.
- Get off at Exit 25 and U.S. 1 South, continue 2 miles on U.S. Route 1
- Another route is Rhode Island Avenue (U.S. 1) North to College Park
The Metro system combines buses (Metrobus) and a subway (Metrorail) to connect suburban Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia. The Metrorail station in College Park is the best way to get from Washington, D.C. to campus. The College Park Metro station, on the green line, is located one mile from campus, therefore visitors will need to hire a taxi, walk, or use the University of Maryland Shuttle. The Shuttle UM from the College Park Metro Station to the campus is free of charge to students, faculty, and guests. During the summer, Shuttle UM runs Monday through Friday from 6:30am until 8pm with service every 10-30 minutes.
Shuttle UM, the campus Shuttle system operates a bus service from the Metro Station to campus Monday through Friday when the University is open. During the summer an evening on-campus route operates 5 days a week and includes a stop at the College Park Metro station. The College Park bus is fare-free for all University students, faculty, and guests. During the summer, Shuttle-UM may be chartered by conferences or groups.
